PE Sports Premium

Priorslee Academy PE and Sport Funding Priorslee Primary Academy understands and values the importance of physical activity and sport. The children are encouraged to undertake a range of sports and activities both within the Physical Education (PE) curriculum and also in extra-curricular activities. The Departments for Education, Health and Culture and Media and Sport have allocated funding to support the provision of PE and sport in schools. With the sports premium and the support of additional money raised through our PTA (FOP), we were able to build an all-weather sports pitch within the school grounds. This has enabled children to participate in a range of sports throughout the year regardless of weather conditions. It has also allowed us to zone-off the playground to ensure maximum participation for clubs and also PE delivery.

The PE Sports Premium has been utilised in may different ways to improve the quality of PE delivery in school. For example, some of the previous uses of the premium have been:

  • To improve the quality and quantity of materials for PE/sport in our school.
  • To build affiliations to leagues and competitions for a range of sports, e.g. Year 3/4 and 5/6 football leagues, swimming galas and cross country races, as well as the Netball competitions.
  • To buy-into the local Sports Partnership to access staff CPD and entry/support into relevant competitions.
  • To offer professional development for staff to ensure high quality PE curriculum teaching.
  • To invest in storage containers outside of the PE cupboard.
  • To purchase flags, banners and sports clothing for cross country and football/netball teams.
  • To replace football goals.
  • To provide further provision to ensure children can swim 25 metres with confidence
  • To provide a framework for PE teaching by purchasing the Val Sabin Physical Education resource pack
  • To provide provision of lunchtime football coaching (Activ8) to increase participation levels.
