The Pupil Premium is allocated to children from low-income families who are currently known to be eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) and children who have been looked after continuously for more than six months. A premium is also available for children with a parent serving in the Armed Forces. From April 2012, the ‘Ever6′ measure was introduced to include payments for every pupil who has been FSM eligible at any point in the last six years.
Schools are free to spend the Pupil Premium as they see fit. However, from September 2012, all schools are required to publish online information about how the Premium has been used. This will enhance the tracking of the attainment of pupils covered by the Premium and provide transparency with regards to the extra support that they receive.
